The product that I have chosen to write a blog on is the critically
acclaimed Life is Strange. It is an episodic (a series that contains a
number of parts to a larger story) graphic adventure video game
developed by Dontnod Entertainment (a French video game developer based
in Paris). The plot is about a photography student named Max who learns
that she has the power to rewind time after having a vision in
photography class. This power to stop time has its consequences for
example the well known butterfly effect, which states "that small things
can have larger effects". The butterfly effect is brought up throughout
the game in different parts where it would be appropriate for example
the vision that Max has in photography slowly tells the story of the
game where this vision is what causes the unusual events that occur
during the course of the game.

The
reason why I like this game so much is because of the different
elements that could easily affect the player as well in their personal
lives as many deal with loss and exploitation while also dealing with
family issues and coping with the inevitability that life never goes the
way you want it to and something is always going to go wrong no matter
what it is. Another reason why I like Life is Strange so much is the
depth of the characters and the development made for each character
throughout the five episodes that differs depending on choices that are
made by the player in all 5 episodes.
The music also
makes the game much more enjoyable than it would if it had generic music
in, because at certain points in the game the music plays at the
perfect time when a serious thing is happening and also when the game is
at its more chilled out moments. The music was composed by Jonathan
Morali of the band Syd Matters. Inspired by indie folk music, the
soundtrack was used to inform the mood of the game. The soundtrack
features artists such as Jose Gonzalez, Mogwai, Breton, Amanda Palmer,
Brian Viglione, Bright Eyes, Message to Bears, Local Natives, Syd
Matters, Sparklehorse, Angus and Julia Stone, alt J, Mud Flow and Foals.
I
would recommend Life is Strange to anyone who likes point and click
adventure games but with a twist and a compelling storyline to boot,
also one with a interesting story that will keep you engaged throughout.
