Progress Diary

In this first bit of raw footage it shows the filming of the location I was using for the location for the opening of my movie, this wasn't used because it didn't really fit with what I wanted.

This bit of raw footage won't be used because it wasn't at the right angle that I wanted for my movie also there was people in the background that were distracting and I didn't want to have to shoot from this angle again. On this bit I used some camera techniques to help make this footage a bit better but in the end it didn't effect much.

For this bit of raw footage, it's close to the final version that's being used but has somethings in it that will be different in the final version of this angle. I did change some of the settings on the camera, one of them being the ISO because it was a bit darker when shooting then I tried to change it but I kept it at the default setting because it looked a lot better.

Editing diary

For the first day of shooting I wanted to get the forrest scenes finished and shot first so it can be used whenever would fit best in my movie, this was also apart of the non-continuity edit for my movie. This shooting continued for a few hours to try and get some things that would work for my trailer that I would have to edit after recording my footage, this resulted in me filming the nearby location to show off the environment then I moved onto to filming Alex doing the things I told him, this took a few takes to get it the way I wanted it to be and to make sure it was done right.

For the second and third days of shooting it was the interview segment of my short movie, this was done in a little room used for some projects like this but also can be used as the control room for the photography studio. The reason why I chose this room for this interview was because I feel like it fits the best out of other rooms that I was going to use (in the end I decided to not use those rooms and settled on the control room), this interview consists of me (the cameraman) asking questions to the supposed tormentor about his actions and if he feels remorse over what he had done. The interview also took a few takes to get right because some of the questions and answers weren't what I needed or wanted and wouldn't be useful towards my short movie.

When I started editing my movie I decided to use some techniques that I had used previously these being cross-dissolves and dips to black. The reason for using these is because I'm comfortable with using them and feel like I can use them well enough to the intended message across to what I'm wanting to see after envisioning it in the planning stages. Another thing that I had done when starting to edit was to split up my clips and have them be in different places in the workspace area so it would be easier to find them when it came down to wanting to use them.

Full Movie

This is the edit for my full short movie. As you can see its round about 2 and a half minutes long and I think it's one of the better edits for my movie because it features some music which I feel like is suitable towards the way that I shot my movie and also the way I edited it. One of the things that I do like about my final edit was that the music I used fit the type of tone I was going for and I think it worked well being quieter during some parts of my movie so the interview could be heard clearly. Another thing that I like about my final edit is that the opening credits and the opening few moments fit together and the POV shots at the beginning also help tell a somewhat darker tone that my movie could have.

One of the things that I didn't like about my movies was that it used similar clips as the non-continuity edit so they could be seen as being very similar and not having much difference in the two edits. Another thing I didn't like was some of the interview segments didn't make much sense as they were taken out of context but I feel like it made them special in that way because it made the interviewee seen a bit chaotic and reckless.

Non-Continunity edit

This is my non-continuity edit for my movie as you can see its round about 2 minutes and 40 seconds, this was done in the way to make it feel like the movie could be in any order and still make sense. One of the things that I liked about my non-continuity edit was the way that it was edited this being having no music with and just having the clips playing, another thing that I liked about it was the way it was shot.

One of the things I didn't like about this edit of my movie was the fact that not much is changed from the final edit for my movie but this was due to not having a lot of time to shoot my movie but I think with this time constraint I think it went well enough.

Movie Trailer

This is my trailer for my short movie, as you can see it's round about 50 seconds long so it could be used as a teaser for my movie to get people interested in seeing what my movie would turn out to be. One of the things that I think went well with my trailer is the cuts to black to space out the conversation/interview so it feels like the full interview will be interesting enough for people to go out of their way and see my movie. I also think that the beginning of the trailer looks good too with the footage of the forest setting a dark tone.

One of things I could've improved upon was making this a bit longer and using more interesting clips to make the trailer look more impressive and better looking. I could've also used some more editing techniques here to make it seem more dark than I was originally intending it to be.

Unit 2: Business card

This business card will help me to find work as wanting to be a freelance journalist, the reason why this is important is so it will help other businesses find out about me and the work that I create as a freelancer. If I do this well it will help me get ahead as a journalist because people will be familiar with the work that I do, will help me get better work and get more important exclusives and be more well known among different companies and newspapers/magazines.

Unit 2: Business Development Meeting

Business Development Meeting

In the business development meeting one of the things that I think went well was that there weren't any awkward pauses or anything that could go wrong. This was done by making the conversation flow freely and not have anything in that would be wasted and only having important points to talk about. An example of this would be when talking about the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 trailer I gave a fairly detailed description of the work I did for works experience a few years ago which really got me interested in being a journalist.

Another thing that I think went well was when I was talking about how long I think it would take me to accomplish my dream job, the reason why for this was because I felt confident about talking about how I would progress onto further knowledge of journalism and how I would get into university and what to study (study at Sunderland university at foundation level for 3-4 years then progress further for another 4-5 years).

One thing that I think I could've done better would be to research more for industry contacts and get more information from then to see what kind of things I would need to do to help improve my journalist work and get noticed.

Unit 2: Mock interview

Mock Interview

One thing that I think went well with this interview was when the conversation went towards how I see myself within the next five years, the reason why is because I feel like I found a good place to talk from and got more comfortable when talking about this part. The answer being I think I could get to be a head writer and or a head editor for magazines and newspapers (although I'm not sure which specific magazines and newspapers.

Another thing that I think went well with this interview was being able to identify some weaknesses, these being sometimes a lack of concentration and getting distracted easily. The way that I mentioned getting around these is by listening to a specific type of music (mostly instrumental music or music with barely any lyrics in so I can concentrate better, sometimes putting music up loud enough helps too). The reason why I think this was a good section of the interview was because it helps lay out the kind of things I could improve upon in future.
