Constructing Representations: Magazines
Magazines cater to a reader's interests (e.g. celebrities, fashion) and hobbies (e.g. computers, fitness.) They are decided by specifically to be dipped in and out rather than be read straight through - so they need to use tactics to catch reader's attention. Everything in a magazine has been selected specifically to appeal directly to a target audience via the way the magazine represents specific things.
For this front cover it prominently features Dave Grohl (frontman of rock-band Foo Fighters) with the pull out quote "This will kill me". It would most likely be targeted for the male audience and would likely be aimed at the middle class because people of lower class might not find musical stars that interesting.
For the design and layout of this magazine all of the fonts that have been used are all bold and stand out to catch the reader's attention. The whole space of the layout for the magazine has been used to ensure that the audience finds the magazine front cover interesting and exciting.
